I worked extensively with DQ and cannot in good conscience recommend. While he has the knowledge of estate planning, his approach and manner is arrogant and unhelpful. He bills any minor questions asked, bills for tasks/documents completed and again to provide the final deliverables to his clients. The biggest problem, however, was his lack of transparency related to estate affairs. Things were not managed as a comprehensive project fashion. Instead everything was done in a one-off manner so it was impossible as a client to ever understand what and when the final outcome would be. In addition, when I asked him for greater simplicity and transparency after already working extensively with him/his firm I was told " "Your affairs are complicated. This is just the way it is". And " I have plenty of clients. If you don't want to work from with me, don't ". He was recommended to me by a financial advisor and I can't say the experience from ever.pleasant. As mentioned, perhaps the only positive for me was that he knew estate law but I question how valuable that is if he's not beneficial to his clients in practicing it.

I observed Jessica Martinez of Doyle & Quane as opposing counsel during a contested family law proceeding. In my experience, the representation appeared underprepared and lacked command of applicable California family law statutes and procedures. On multiple occasions, Ms. Martinez struggled to clearly articulate her client’s positions, and her own client repeatedly had to step in to explain or justify matters to the court. The judge addressed the client directly several times regarding financial decisions, rather than relying on counsel’s presentation. Throughout the hearings, statutory and procedural issues required clarification, with the court frequently looking to my attorney for accurate legal guidance. Ultimately, a senior attorney from the opposing firm had to step in, reinforcing concerns about courtroom readiness in a complex, high-conflict case. I was also deeply troubled by Ms. Martinez’s insinuation that the decision to use my 401(k) for IVF treatment was mine alone. In reality, this was a joint marital decision made by both spouses in the hope of raising a child together. I found that characterization inaccurate and disrespectful to the physical and emotional reality of what women endure in order to bring a child into the world. The court denied my husband’s request to terminate spousal support, questioned his breach of fiduciary duties, and ultimately ruled in our favor. The judge’s rulings confirmed that the opposing arguments lacked both factual and legal foundation.

Dan Quane was very easy to work with. He was patient as we asked questions, and thoroughly explained the legal terms we didn’t understand. His staff was responsive and professional. We would highly recommend hiring him for estate planning.

My wife and I worked with Dan on creating our Estate Plan and a Trust. Dan was patient with us and answered all of our questions. He also gave us clear direction on how we should utilize the Trust.
