I cannot recommend Susan Hurdelbrink highly enough. She was wonderful to work with during an incredibly stressful time in my life. Susan was knowledgeable, responsive, supportive, and—most importantly—I always felt like she genuinely cared about me and my situation. She listened to my concerns, explained things clearly, and made me feel supported rather than like I was simply another case on her desk. I also really appreciated her transparency and consideration when it came to costs. Legal matters can become incredibly expensive, and I never felt that Susan was trying to unnecessarily run up fees. She was thoughtful about helping me find practical options that worked for my circumstances. Even after our formal attorney-client relationship ended, Susan continued to be kind, encouraging, and genuinely interested in how things were going. That says a lot about the kind of attorney—and person—she is. I had a wonderful experience with her and would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a family law attorney. Five stars without hesitation.

To this day (it’s been 5 years) I’m struggling with the aftermath of having worked with a lawyer who did not know anything about coercive control and when the temporary order came and the judge ruled 50/50 custody, my life has been been a constant downhill battle with my ex who uses my child as a pawn, manipulates and alienates him from me and my circle. I asked my lawyer (Callie) why she didn’t ask me if there was anything more to say when the judge asked, and she just shrugged and said “well you said you were fine to one day transition to 50/50” -what I said is that my child who was used to being with me 100% of the time was nowhere near ready for 50/50 but IF he ever were then the only way to do this would be maybe a transition period where we would very slowly have to get there but that would have to show after the separation. So she took this and ran with that because my ex seemed charming enough to cut deals with. She showed zero empathy and when I mustered up my courage to give her (very calm) feedback, she was extremely dismissive. Mind you she was a new mom, not even mothers suport mothers these days. My life has been hell because I was too empathic and didn’t think of my own needs. My advice for anyone dealing with an abusive / controlling ex, please make sure to choose a lawyer who is educated on that topic because lawyers cut deals with the other lawyers not understanding the charming nature of the person you’re fighting is all a facade. The system is rigged unfortunately. Court will likely not help you. The only chance you have is finding an amazing lawyer who is knowledgable about coercive control and abuse BEFORE going to court, if you make the wrong choice your life will end in a never ending hell like mine, forever in a cycle of post separation abuse. Most of us don’t have the resources to fight, and 99% of the time it won’t yield the result you are hoping for. the only thing to do is accept you’ve made the worst choice in your ex partner, accept who they are, and pour the money into healing modalities for your own sanity. I still gave an extra star because 1) I take some responsibility for not having chosen well because I didn’t know myself and 2) clearly she had some level of skill and crafted the legal documents, child support etc. but I truly wished I went with someone more empathic and knowledgable toward my specific situation.

So far have not heard anything from them, I reached out twice to no avail.
