My "chosen" mother lived to be 101 1/2 and lived in Assisted Living for her last 7 or 8 years, dwindling what was once a $400,000 savings.

Her lifelong attorney retired prior to her passing and had transferred my mom's will to Anita D'Amico. While I had been an executor previously in Delaware where I live, I was totally unaware of PA's processes and procedures. At her death my mom's estate was now VERY simple and VERY small. When I met with Anita, she told me that the least they would ever charge was $2500 and I hired her expecting that to be the cost.

From the beginning there were missed meetings, missed scheduled phone calls, and a lack of one-to-one contact with Ms. D'Amico. On the day she was to meet me at the Register of Wills office, she sent a clerk with a contract to sign charging $5000 for her services. The clerk knew nothing about the contract and I felt that without signing I would have no lawyer and wouldn't know how to find another in PA. I reluctantly, and regretfully signed under what felt like duress at the moment. I contacted Ms. D'Amico immediately who literally denied ever having said anything about a $2500 fee. She has maintained that stance ever since, even though I have written notes from our first meeting supporting my claim.

My frustration and anger only grew because the contract included a chart of State recommended reasonable fees dependent upon the size of the estate. My mom's estate would fall at the lowest possible fee level: $1400--$1100 less than I had agreed to pay but still listed her fee at $5000.

After weeks and months of the office dragging its feet because I had only paid the $2500 I had agreed to in the meeting, I finally caved and sent and additional check for $2500. I want to note that in the end D'Amico got $5000, one other beneficiary received $5000 as provided for in the will, and I received just over $3000 which was the "remainder of the will" as was also provided for in the will.

I would NEVER hire Anita D'Amico for any legal work. I can't imagine the motivation of someone who would go to such extremes for what must be a very small estate compared to her overall practice.

In this day and age, trust is something that does not come easy for many of us. It’s hard to trust our politicians, our business associates and sometimes, sadly, even our own families. I am what some attorneys would consider “needy” or “demanding.” I would agree to some degree of those characterizations. I’m a perfectionist and I do have a lot of expectations. I want the job done as quickly as possible. Anita does too but only when she feels she has done everything she can for you. There were weeks that I literally sent emails daily to Anita with questions and concerns. Despite my neuroses, Anita took the time to answer my emails daily and tried her best to put me at ease.

After cleaning up the mess left by my former attorney, I had Anita do my own estate planning. I certainly hope to live for quite awhile, but if not, she covered everything with a fine tooth comb. When you combine authenticity, empathy, a full understanding of the law, and the right amount of toughness needed to get the job done; you have had the pleasure of Anita D’Amico working very hard for you while putting you at ease every step of the way.

Anita was born and raised in our community. She comes from a wonderful family that has given a great deal to the community. Her upbringing has certainly made her the kind, giving woman with a driven work ethic and passion for what she does. When you add everything up, you simply will not find an attorney with the chops to handle business while being there for you as her client.
