I hired Robert Curtis for one specific reason: to have my existing parenting plan formally considered and acted upon by the court so I could receive fair parenting time with my daughter. He told me he regularly worked in this courthouse, saw no reason why my request for shared parenting time should not be considered, and agreed to limited-scope representation for $2,500. He also agreed that he would continue assisting me until the judge made a decision regarding the details of the parenting plan. After our May 20 hearing, Mr. Curtis repeatedly told me we were waiting for the judge's minute order. On July 15, I discovered on my own that the minute order had actually been filed the same day as the hearing and specifically directed: “Counsel for Petitioner to prepare the Written Order after Hearing...” To my knowledge, Mr. Curtis never completed that step. He did not provide me with the May 20 minute order until August 10, more than a month after I had already found it myself. There were also multiple occasions when Mr. Curtis appeared to confuse my case with another client's case, which made me question how closely the details of my case were being followed. I understand that an attorney cannot guarantee the outcome of a custody case. My dissatisfaction is not simply because I didn't receive the parenting schedule I wanted. I paid Mr. Curtis to help get my existing parenting plan formally considered and acted upon by the court, and that did not happen during his representation. What concerned me most was discovering that while I had been told we were waiting on the court, the court had already issued an order directing petitioner's counsel to take the next step. Ultimately, the parenting plan was never properly addressed during his representation.

Hired Robert Curtis (Curtis Family Law, Long Beach) in May 2026 for a Torrance custody/parentage case after a default. Paid a $5,000 retainer. The CCP 473 set-aside was not filed until mid-August. He was often out of the country, mixed up the nature of the case, and left me chasing FCS mediation login info the night before an Aug 31 mediation. After drawing down almost all of the retainer with little courtroom progress, he demanded another $5,000 and filed to withdraw before the late-September hearings. I had to substitute him out and hire new counsel under emergency timelines. Would not recommend.
