A friend referred me to Cumberland,Erly, West, LLC. I had waited to long to get a lawyer when my husband filed for divorce after 23 years of marriage. I called and the only lawyer able to take my case was Alexander Mejia. I am still Praising God for her. My divorce was ugly and complicated. Mrs. Mejia was competent and professional. She showed kindness to me and my children walking through this difficult time. In court she wiped the floor with my husband and his in a inept, incompetent, and unnecessarily mean lawyer. Mrs. Mejia brought to court every detail of my case and all the laws to back up her arguments. She kicked butt and took names in court WITHOUT being aggressive and yelling. She is not only a top notch lawyer but also an amazing person. Mrs. Mejia fought hard for me and she came through. My settlement was MORE than I had asked for during mediation. Thank you Alex!!!

Larry Cumberland is a fantastic litigator. I had to sue a construction company for major damages to my house and keeping the remaining money after I had to fire them—and he handled it very efficiently and effectively, getting a really good settlement (despite their leadership being very hard-headed) relatively early in the process, before the discovery phase. He’s the best, and most experienced, litigator in Southern Maryland, especially for very complex lawsuits like mine was.

If I was a lawyer, I would not want to have to go up against him. Colleagues who have gone up against him said he’s formidable, with one saying he’s the best lawyer he’s ever been up against in his entire career. That checks, from what I saw when he handled my case. Very highly recommended!

While I'm sure the firm has great, experienced attorneys, I was stuck with the new inexperienced attorney associate. She was overpriced, inexperienced, and told me she wasn't very interested in divorce court or the outcomes. It is frustrating to have to file a 'change of attorney' in the middle of a case after being nickel and dimed for every email. I'm sure she was a great court clerk, but she needs far more experience under a more experienced attorney before she has any right charging what she does or being responsible for her own case load. I don't want to use her name on the review, but if you are shopping for an attorney here, check what year they graduated law school and ask for someone else.
