I want to sincerely thank Courtney Benson for the help she gave me during my 8 month stay at Manatee County Jail. I was looking at 4 years in prison, and walked away with 8 months and a program. Not only that, but Courtney’s office answered EVERY time I called her directly from jail, every other place I called didn’t accept calls from jail, so that was very nice to have that luxury. I was met with Jason at her office towards the end and Sebastian (they also have a Sebastian) they were both very very helpful in getting me connected with Courtney, to the point where she was probably annoyed with me. Thanks guys!

Long story short, you’d be better off with a public defender. This is one of the worst attorneys I’ve come across. Believe the negative reviews, because that’s the real experience you’re going to get. Unless you want to go to trial or risk ending up with more time than you were originally offered by the state, I would avoid her. She won't talk to you before, during or after hearings. She won't show up to meetings with her clients even when you've been put on your schedule. The amount of excuses got so ridiculous that If this were any other job, she'd be fired.

You want a lawyer the state takes seriously, and it’s obvious they don’t take her seriously. When your life is on the line, you need someone focused and present. Instead of discussing what just happened at your hearing, she’ll have her friends waiting outside the courtroom so she can go to lunch.

She grossly mishandled my friends case to the point that I was ready to file a complaint with the Florida bar association. I had The privilege of being on all the phone calls for him so this is all first hand knowledge. At the end of the day the state originally offered him three years if not to take it further to which Ms Benson declined and after a long drawn out prossess filled with mistakes on her end, Ms Benson got him 3 in 2 out. She actually went to him and said good news, I got you 3 years......but it does have 2 years probation. Lmao, that's lyterally worse than the states original offer.

Also, Be weary of the reviews on here. Some of these are people who are affiliated with her. As someone who's had to hire lawyers herself, take my word and hire somebody else. She couldn't beat her own traffic ticket. Good luck with your criminal case.

A month ago, Courtney did her big one on my case. They were trying to hit me with 45 years for a crime that I did not committed which was arson 2nd degree felony times x3 Courtney explained to me my situation form the start she was very truthful ,honest and professional she answer all the questions that I had to ask , when I spoke with her, that was the first day I felt a relief came off my shoulder because I had a previous lawyer before that wasn’t doing shit for almost 11/2 years that took almost $8000 out of my pocket. Courtney took my case within an eight month period her and her team did everything that was supposed to be done every time I have a court date, they will call me and remind me the day before they also set me up on payment plan which work perfect for me . She also hire a private investigator to do some other job that she could not handle and I’m telling you I walked away not guilty. Courtney I want to tell you that I appreciate you and your team for showing up for me and my family. Thank you again.
