I hired Shane to handle my father’s estate and had a very bad experience.

From the start, there were issues with organization and communication. During my first visit, I was unable to meet with the attorney and was asked to complete paperwork in the lobby of their building. Some of that paperwork later turned out to be incorrect for my situation and I had to return to fill out new paperwork, particularly because one of the heirs was a minor—something that should have been identified with basic intake.

I also had to discuss personal matters in a non-private, lobby-style setting, which was uncomfortable. I recognize that I should've pulled the plug, however when in a vulnerable state you aren't thinking clearly, and I had just lost my father.

As the case progressed, I was advised to take on a fiduciary role for a minor’s share. I clearly stated I was not in the right state of mind to do so, but felt pressured without a clear explanation of the legal implications.

Later, another attorney raised an issue involving the rights of a minor in relation to the estate (including the home), which significantly impacted the distribution. This had not been explained to me beforehand and had a major financial impact. It should have been identified and clearly communicated so I could have made an informed decision.

Now, years later, after reopening the estate for a newly discovered asset, I contacted this office because the court indicated they were still listed as attorney of record. I was told they were not on the case, and would only file a withdrawal if required. This did not align with what the probate court told me and added unnecessary stress.

Attorney fees were approximately $15,000. Given the issues above, I did not feel the services provided were anywhere near worth that cost.

Overall, I did not feel adequately advised or supported during a very difficult time and would recommend asking extremely detailed questions and confirming all information before hiring.

The common stereotype of lawyers is that of a greedy, dispassionate, self centered person. Shane Childers dispels that image. He is caring, welcoming as well as being extremely competent. He is knowledgeable and thorough in all legal matters. I unequivocally recommend him to anyone needing legal assistance.
