My experience with Central Virginia Legal Aid in Petersburg, Virginia, simply put is no experience at all the best way I can explain is that no one showed up for me on any of the court dates.

Unfortunately, I found the office to be unhelpful and not client-oriented. I felt they had little to no interest in my case, as I was repeatedly bounced back and forth between paralegals (Erica) and attorneys (Ashley) without any real progress.

While they claim to help clients avoid eviction, they did absolutely nothing for me. They would not even provide advice on how to negotiate with the landlord I was renting from. My situation was particularly urgent because the property in Petersburg was eventually deemed uninhabitable. The conditions of the home caused me to become ill, which led to employment issues and falling behind on rent. Despite these circumstances, Legal Aid was unable to provide any assistance in helping me avoid eviction.

I hope this feedback is helpful in understanding the challenges I faced while seeking assistance from their office.

Once evicted I reached out to them about emergency housing opportunities and they gave me the worst attitude saying things along of the lines of "I thought I already told you"

You get what you pay for, don't rent a cheap apartment in Petersburg and do not by any means seek help or legal advice from CVA. Chances are they will sell your information.

Receptionist need to go. Both times I came up here she was arbitrarily rude refusing to open the door until I had expressly gave her a detailed explanation of my legal issue. The first time we filled out the paperwork eventually and then just did not receive a call back. The second time since we ran out of time waiting for them we completed our steps and asked for further assistance only to be met with further disrespect. Has it ever been considered disrespectful to say what's up. Cuz based on that she decided that she was not going to address my issue. Well at least that's what she said and then another person answered. She took my name and then refused to respond to me. They then called the police and said I was threatening them. When have you ever heard of a legal aid filing a false police report to have you moved off their property. When I tried to press charges against them the cop just refused. Because I know for a fact I did not in any way disrespect or threaten anyone so I want them to prove it and I know that they can't so let's go to court. No it's not worth the trouble I now have to go do other things to actually receive any sort of legal assistance. Because they are obviously not here to assist anyone. To go so far as to file a false police report because you don't want to talk to somebody because you're entitlement you don't deserve a job. The fact that she's still working there after all these complaints specifically stating that she's the issue means the issue is deeply rooted.
