I am very disappointed with my experience with Central California Legal Services (CCLS). 👎 I want to acknowledge that the front desk staff I interacted with were polite and courteous. Unfortunately, beyond that, I did not receive the help I was seeking. My experience with some of the staff was that they were bureaucratic, impatient, and, in my opinion, not professional or compassionate enough toward someone in a vulnerable situation. As a single mother, I reached out to CCLS for help seeking a domestic violence restraining order and sole legal and physical custody of my child. I was already feeling overwhelmed and desperate when I asked for assistance. Instead of carefully evaluating my situation and helping me understand my legal options, I was told that because the other party had never physically hit me, I was unlikely to obtain a restraining order. Based on that reasoning, CCLS declined to help me. I found the way this was communicated to me extremely discouraging and dismissive. Domestic violence is not always limited to physical hitting. People can experience threats, harassment, intimidation, coercive control, and other forms of abusive behavior without being physically assaulted. What was especially difficult for me was that I turned to CCLS precisely because I believed a legal aid organization existed to help people who could not easily afford private legal assistance. Fortunately, I did not give up. With the help of other professionals, I was eventually able to navigate the legal process and obtain from the court the long-term restraining order and sole legal and physical custody I had sought. This experience left me with a very difficult question: If a legal aid organization cannot meaningfully help a vulnerable person who comes to it seeking protection and legal assistance, then what is the purpose of providing that service? I sincerely hope CCLS will take experiences like mine seriously and improve the way it evaluates cases and communicates with people who come to them for help—especially people who may already feel frightened, overwhelmed, or without options. I am grateful to the front desk staff who treated me kindly, but overall, based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend CCLS to someone who is seeking compassionate and individualized assistance with a difficult family-law situation.

Horrible, Anna, my repesentitive/defender failed to maintain contact, failed to provide updates, and was a no show come the day of the hearing, highly unprofessional and no help at all

All I know so far is that they are highly recommended by the Public Defenders Office and this go around public defender office has been the best I've ever experienced thank you Public Defenders Office and Central California Legal Services.

Update AUG 7th 2026 I got a call from the Fresno office today. It only took them **10 months** for someone to get back to me. 😂 They wanted to know if I wanted to talk to someone at HQ about everything that happened. The lady asked if **Karen** was there, and I said, "My name isn't Karen, it's **Kara**." Then I jokingly asked, "Did someone put 'Karen' in the notes because of this and forget to change my name back to Kara?" She said, "Oh no, I didn't even think of that. I'm so sorry." I told her I'd already found a much better place in Tulare that actually gets back to me right away instead of making me wait months to hear from someone. By then, I've already forgotten what was even going on. I also explained that they wanted copies of my lease files, so I emailed everything they requested. They told me someone would get back to me, but nobody ever did. Then I received a letter saying my case had been closed. By the end of the call, I just thought, "This is probably going to go in one ear and out the other. They're probably just going to think I'm being a 'Karen' even more." So I said, "Forget it. You're not going to take this seriously anyway. Bye," and I ended the call. this was giving the same BS i get form FHCN LMMFAO 1 YEAR LATER STILL NO ANSWERS TO MY OG REQUEST NOV 2025 Review: I asked for help because my apartment management said we couldn’t have doorbell cameras or any cameras at all. They also made us sign a new lease months into our renewal. On top of that, they cherry-picked parts of the California e-bike law and rewrote it to make it sound like we can’t have e-bikes in our apartment at all, for no valid reason. They told me to email them the new lease and said someone would call me within a week. Instead, months later, I got a letter saying the case was “resolved and closed,” but I never received any call, explanation, or actual help.
