I would not recommend the Jean Brown Law Firm based on my personal experience with attorney Amy Owen and her paralegal, Vanessa Uriegas.
As a retired veteran, I expected competent, transparent representation. Instead, I received the opposite. Amy Owen and her team negotiated agreements and drafted court orders that were vague and ineffective, making them difficult to enforce or use to hold the other party accountable.
Throughout the case, I felt that my concerns and objectives were routinely dismissed, while the other party’s positions appeared to be favored and reflected in the recommendations and outcomes. For example, they pushed to treat my separate property, an asset I owned prior to the marriage, as community property, allowing my ex to receive escrow-related benefits from it. At the same time, I was advised to take on additional financial obligations, including paying off my ex vehicle loan, which further disadvantaged me.
I requested a child support modification, and a reduced amount was calculated and communicated to me, but it was never filed with the court. That failure alone placed me in arrears through no fault of my own.
Communication was consistently poor. Calls and emails often went unanswered, and when I did try to get updates, I was billed heavily for even basic communication. At approximately $600 per email or phone call, the cost was excessive, especially considering the lack of results.
During mediation, I was required to provide full financial disclosures, while the other party was not held to the same standard. This created a one-sided process where my financial information was fully exposed, and I had no visibility into theirs.
I also felt dismissed during discussions. Concerns were interrupted, talked over, or brushed aside rather than addressed. Vanessa Uriegas, in particular, would often speak over me and dismiss my input, limiting my ability to meaningfully participate in my own case.
Despite the significant time and cost involved, my case experienced repeated delays and never meaningfully progressed to court due to issues such as illness, vacations, scheduling conflicts, and continuances. These repeated delays further contributed to the lack of resolution.
Over the course of my representation from December 2023 to August 2025, I paid approximately $32,000 in legal fees. For that level of cost, I expected professionalism, advocacy, and results. Instead, I experienced poor communication, weak representation, and outcomes that ultimately caused me financial and legal harm.

If I could give ZERO stars I would. These people got a temporary order for support from my soon to be ex. I followed up-asked for copies-did my due diligence. They NEVER filed the order. They drafted it-I approved it they never filed it. When I tried to have the order enforced because my husband doesn’t pay what he’s supposed to-I had to contact them and find out they NEVER filed it. They then filed it, I hired another atty to enforce it-only to find out from the new atty and the judge that Jean Brown did not word it properly. Upon reaching out to Jean Brown she tried to blame me on how the order was worded. They couldn’t even find my file! I had to find where I had saved the email they sent the order in for my approval. Now I’m 2 years and over $30,000 in atty fees in, and do not have an enforceable order. My deadbeat husband is happy however being able to spend all his kids support on the homewrecker.
