I would give zero stars if I could. Slow responses on emails, the first time I was addressed as James, and not Mr. Goines, which is very unprofessional, and high billing rates despite not providing a service that justifies higher rates. It seemed as though our account was treated poorly because it was not large like some probably are here in the wealthy Bay Area. I found the assistants to be courteous which was nice. Aside from that this firm does not deserve any more 5-star ratings, did not in the first place, and does not deserve further business. Avoid.

As an inexperienced non-business type individual handling my father's estate after his passing, Berliner Cohen was a blessing in the very professional and objective support they provided. My specific attorney was Mark Makiewicz. He represented my interests in the sale of an odd commercial lot near the Diridon Station close to downtown San Jose. He was absolutely great; personable, knowledgable and quick to respond. I was dealing with long 5 to 25 page documents. Mark would spend an hour reviewing some long document and come back with 10 or more points to alter, all substantive, a couple would have saved me big money had the sale fallen through, and 1 in particular, related to an escrow payment, got money to me immediately that would otherwise have sat in an escrow account for 2 years. Berliner Cohen rates seem on the high side, but the actual time billed is very reasonable for the tasks handled. During the sale an issue came up that was more of a subjective real estate question. For that Mark brought in another attorney in the firm with more of a real estate marketing specialization to get his opinion. I felt having those specialized resources was another plus for Berliner Cohen. I highly recommend this law firm.
