In July 2025, as a result of taking pictures of Home Owners Associations (HOA) violations within a commercial office complex, I was arrested for stalking by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department whose deputies were completely duped by the alleged victim. To this day, I cannot believe that I was arrested for taking pictures of a BUILDING that had numerous HOA violations. There was never any proof submitted that I took a single picture of the alleged victim, only her BUILDING's violations. The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department told me that they would get my alleged victim's side of the story and then interview me for my side of the story and then after completing their "investigation", only then would they decide whether or not they would charge me with stalking. I was shocked. Unfortunately, they never came back and got my side of the story and instead, a sheriff's deputy showed up at my house at 6:30 PM, handcuffed me in front of my crying wife, and I found myself sucked into the so called "criminal justice" system where I was supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. What a farce that turned out to be. In reality, I was treated as though I was guilty from the minute the handcuffs were put on my wrists and the shackles were put on my ankles and I was put in jail. While in jail, during the bond hearing, the judge lectured me about stalking women in Okaloosa County and how Okaloosa County doesn't stand for it (guilty until proven innocent???). I could feel the weight of the government bearing down upon me and it became clear that I needed a good attorney. A close friend recommended Beau Powell and I ended up hiring Beau and his team and I am really glad that I did. I sat in court hearing after court hearing watching defendant after defendant be bullied and intimidated by hungry young prosecutors and their supervisors into accepting plea deals and I assumed that they didn't have the guts or the resources to fight back. All the while, the sheriff's department and the prosecutors racked up conviction after conviction. What a circus it was. I was an anomaly because I pled not guilty and chose to fight them because I was innocent. As such,I rejected two different plea deals offered to me by the prosecutors and was determined to have my day in court. In response to my rejecting the plea deals, the prosecutors added additional charges to try to further intimidate me into pleading guilty so they could rack up another victory. I refused. During these hearings, thanks to Beau’s experience as a former prosecuting attorney, his experience as a defense attorney, his knowledge of the law, and my tenacity and refusal to be intimidated, we made it through to the trial date without accepting a plea deal. It was during the trial itself that Beau brought out his secret weapon, which was his partner, Bridgette Graham. Beau and Bridgette handled the trial masterfully and half way through the trial the judge threw out the additional charges that the prosecutor brought against me because I refused to accept a plea deal. Their combined knowledge and experience, along with Bridgette’s eloquence and passion during her home-run closing arguments, resulted in the jury only taking approximately 22 minutes to see that the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department had in fact been completely duped by my alleged victim and they found me not guilty. 🙂 Thank you Beau and Bridgette.
