I came for a consultation here in 2017 or 2018. I decided to go with them because they were recommended to me by a coworker. Unfortunately, all they did was waste my time. At first it seemed to be going well. Documents were being filed to immigration and we were getting responses. The process basically went downhill when COVID happened. Prior to COVID, our lawyer Brian had "sent" a motion to reopen to the courts. We waited for years and no response. In the meantime, I was calling the office asking for updates. I would usually speak to Carolina and she would say that "COVID slowed everything down". Each time I would ask if there was anything additional we could do. I would ask if there was any way to contact the courts and each time she would tell me no, that it was not possible. She would say that we just have to wait. I totally understand that the world basically stopped during COVID. But after years of the same responses from Carolina, I felt like something was not right. In 11/2024, I went and got a consultation from a different lawyer. That lawyer agreed that the lack of response was weird. He agreed the case was somewhat complicated, but not enough where it should be taking this long to get a motion to reopen started. In December of 2024, I called the Abod and Caruso office to request the documents they had on our case. For some reason, they did not want to give it to me. I found this situation pretty odd. I called and asked for it, they told me to come on a specific date for pick up. I called before arriving and they said it was not ready. Okay, fine. So, I call a second time on the day they said to see if it was ready and they told me to come pick it up on a different day. This time I physically went to the office and then they told me that they couldn't give it to me until 2 weeks from that day. I was pretty upset and baffled that they didn’t want to give me documents that I had a right to. But I made my dissatisfaction known and someone called me later that same day to come pick up the documents the next day. I don't recall her name but she said she was from their office across the street. I finally receive my documents after my third attempt and take them to my new lawyer. Fast forward a week later, my new lawyer contacted me and said the reason why the courts were not responding was because they had NEVER received the motion to reopen. It's so crazy to me because my new lawyer did minimal effort to figure this out. All he did was call the court, which Carolina refused to do. I am so disappointed with the lawyer Brian and paralegal Carolina. That was valuable time wasted that my family and I will never get back. It really sucks because now the timing is even less ideal with Trump’s second presidency. I’m not exactly sure why we slipped through the cracks with them. I kind of have a feeling that they are just taking on too much workload and this leads to getting to the easy cases first and slacking on the harder ones. If anybody is in a similar situation with this office, trust your gut. It is not okay to be brushed off. Do not make the same naïve mistake and trust this office. Our time is valuable and we deserve a lawyer that respects that. P.S, A big red flag that I ignored are the stacks and stacks of documents that they store on the floor. That is not okay.
