I was referred by a former paralegal of Susan Over to use her services. I have left 2 detailed messages in the last 5 months. I received 0 call backs. I also used her message app, Avvo and it was also ignored.

I wouldn't really recommend her just based off of my consult experience. My fiancé and I were trying to get our prenup drafted/edited. We had already spent hours creating this document together and agreed to everything. We just needed to have a lawyer look over it and make sure it was all legal and enforceable.

The receptionist said that she would charge $225 for the consult which should have been half an hour and the hourly rate afterward would be $450 per hour. The receptionist also said that since we already did most of the work, Ms. Over would probably be able to get most of the details ironed out in the consult.

This did not happen at all. I sent the 5ish page document over 24 hours prior to the consult. She said she hadn't been able to get a detailed look at it. So I was a a little upset with how unprepared she was when she asked me basic questions about what we had already included in the document. I will say that she at least was honest about the details of how the process should go, but the limited information given was not worth $225 in my opinion.

She said that they require a retainer of $2000 and that any unused portion would be refunded. I wasn't really looking to set up a whole legal file and set up a divorce case. We just wanted to make sure the document was legal.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it just seemed crazy to pay that much for someone to look over and edit a document that most of the legwork was already done on.

Hired Mrs. Over for a PFA case in 2021 when my now ex-wife filed a frivolous claim against me including a very serious allegation of “hitting her in the head with a balled up pair of socks”.

During the course of her counsel, I do not feel as if I was very informed about the long lasting ramifications of entering a “plea deal” agreement in this instance. Whereas I thought nothing of agreeing to stay away from my ex-wife (since I did not want to be near her anyway), I should have fought every single line in this frivolous allegation in front of an open court. For example, when you enter an agreement in this type of case, you may as well be admitting guilt and it WILL BE USED AGAINST YOU IN ALL FUTURE PROCEEDINGS. Case in point, the Family Court judge for mg child custody case once in open court stated “There are very serious allegations of abuse” stemming only from this bogus PFA that I entered into an agreement of.

This info would have been particularly useful to be made aware of when pursuing child custody of any kind (2.5 years later I am still fighting to see and/or talk to my two young children in any capacity.

Mrs. Over laid out my case to me as such, “Since your daughter is also named in this PFA, you basically have two options…fight it and risk not being able to see your 3.5 year old daughter for a year if decided not in your favor or just agree not to go around your ex-wife for a year and visit your kids using supervised visits”. This seemed like a no brainer to me as I did not wish to go around my ex-wife as I in fact left her and also thought supervised visits would be good for my own protection as well.

As it turns out…agreeing to any terms of a PFA (thought not in law but definitely in every other aspect) makes you guilty as charged and additionally by using any supervised visit agency you are also treated this same way.

To reiterate here, my main complaint with Mrs. Over would be that she was in my opinion bad counsel in that I think she is much more aware of how the justice system works against divorced fathers and its intricacies in those regards.

I think either through laziness or incompetence she did not iterate to me all of the potential long term pitfalls or otherwise that could come into play with each choice that was made in this instance. Law is Mrs. Overs area of expertise whereas I have never dealt with this specific thing before and should have done more research on my own to know which questions to ask I suppose?

My apologies for the long review but I felt there needed to be some backstory so that if anyone else is reading this review in the same situation, you may pick up at least a wee bit of knowledge that neither this lady nor my next atty in same case thought pertinent to disclose.
